Exam tips and advice

This section of the InThinking IB Business Management website provides advice and top tips for the external examinations.

As a starter, consider these top tips for developing exam technique:

  • Always read the question (RTQ) carefully so that you provide precise and accurate answers to get full marks.
  • Learn the command terms used in IB Business Management. There is a command term used in each question, so unless you fully understand the demands of the question, it can be challenging to score maximum marks.
  • Write in full sentences, rather than using bullet points, unless the question asks you to "state" or "calculate". Writing in bullet point format often entices students to miss out on the details required for AO2 and AO3 questions.
  • Use examples where possible and appropriate to add clarity to your answers. If there are some gaps in your answer, the use a relevant example can help the examiner to better understand what you are trying to argue or explain.
  • Use essay frameworks (such as PEEL and SLAP) to help formulate your extended response answers in Paper 1 and Paper 2.
