How can students make a difference in the world and make it a better place?

At the heart of the IB Mission is the aim of developing "young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world”. This is a lofty aim but how do we practically encourage them to take the first steps?

I want to use this blog to introduce you to a global educational movement that takes the mission of creating a better world to its heart. The movement is called 'Design for change'.

How best to describe ‘Design for change’? It is a movement that empowers children to make the change they wish to see in the world. It provides a structured way to intentionally make the world a better place. It uses a design thinking framework – feel, imagine, do, share – to help students make the change a better place.

As their website announces:

The I CAN MINDSET equips every child to be
AWARE of the world around them
ENABLED with the skills to take action and
EMPOWERED to design a more desirable and sustainable future- TODAY!

The following video explains how 'Design for change' came about and how it uses design thinking to provide students with a framework to help them make the change they wish to see in the world.
