12: Europe during and after the Cold War (1945–2020)

European politics was dominated by the Cold War between 1945 and 1990. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, the Cold War ended and Europe began a new path with east European states having free elections for the first time and many joining a reinvigorated and enlarged EU.
