2. German Unification
German Unification followed a similar timeline to that of Italian Unification - finally being completed in 1871. However, as you will see, the forces and individuals which drove forward German Unification were very different to those in Italy.Following the defeat of Napoleon, the geographical area we now know as Germany was not returned to as it had been in 1789; instead a Confederation of 39 states was created.
