December 2022 Updates & Notices

Dear all
We're already in December!
If you're looking for some fun/engaging learning activities prior to the Christmas/end of term break, please take a look at these two ATL starter/plenary activities for the new Unit 4.5: What's in a Brand Name and an Anagrams Quiz.
For subscribers in November centres, as you prefer to deliver the new course soon, please take a look at the following sections of the website:
A comprehensive examination of the differences between the old and new syllabus guides can be found here.
FAQs from teachers who have attended IB workshops about the new course can be found here.
Details of the new internal assessment for SL and HL can be found here.
Details of the new external assessments, including a new Paper 3 for HL only candidates, can be found here.
A comprehensive glossary of key terms for the new course can be found here. For those who have activated Student Access (which is free to do so), it might be worth asking students to bookmark this page.
As we continue to switch our attention to the new syllabus, students need to spend time learning the practising the use of business management terminology, including the large number of abbreviations used in the course. A new abbreviations quiz has been added here, with a link to the 700+ glossary of key terms used in the new course.

The final tool (Critical Path Analysis) has been completed and added to the BMT section of the website. At over 63,500 words, InThinking is the most comprehensive resource available for the new BMT. Additional exam practice questions for all 15 tools in the BMT will be added during the rest of the academic year, as well as additional quizzes and learning activities. For example, a new true or false quiz for the BCG matrix has been added here, along with the option to download a PDF version to use in class.

Many teachers have been asking about additional support for the new Paper 3 (HL only). Please see the website for a new Paper 3 exam practice question, with a full/detailed mark scheme for this new external assessment. It is based on my personal favourite social enterprise called Change Please, based in London but with operations beyond the UK now. This resource has taken countless hours to create. My sincere thanks to Ms. Rebecca Benham (Marketing and Social Media Assistant at Change Please) and Mr. Ary Ganeshalingham (Chief Marketing Officer at Change Please), for meeting me to conduct and complete the necessary research. Also, special thanks to Dr. Rima Puri for providing feedback on the numerous drafts in creating this Paper 3 resource. I hope you and your students enjoy using this and that it prepares them better for their own investigations in the human needs, challenges, and plan of action for different social enterprises.
Next month, there will be some new Paper 2 specimen questions and mark schemes added to the website. So watch this space!
We're some way off from starting the new IAs, but in preparation for this important change, additional research questions for the new IA have been added here (33 in total, covering all of the 4 key concepts).

The IB recently announced the introduction of three time zones starting with the May 2023 exams session. Please ensure you are aware of your own time zone for IB assessment purposes. An update has been provided here.

As teachers continue to discover more about the new syllabus, there have been many questions about training courses opportunities. Please note there is a separate tab on the homepage labelled "ThinkI-Ins (CPD)", as well as the information on the left hand side of the homepage, that outlines upcoming professional development opportunities with InThinking. There is also an IB Category 2 Workshop that is being hosted by InThinking in cooperation with the IB, in February 2022. Details of this workshop can be found here.
There will be additional Think-In sessions added soon for the Extended Essay, new IA, Paper 1 (May 2023 exam), and new external assessments (for M24 exams and beyond).
Wishing you all a great month ahead.
Paul Hoang
