March 2024 Updates and Notices
Dear InThinking subscribers
Welcome to the March Newsletter!
At the time of writing, there are only about 8 weeks remaining before the first exams for the new syllabus! The M24 Paper 1 exam (Before One PLC) is on Friday 26th April 2024. This is the same day as the Paper 3 exam for HL only candidates. The Paper 2 exam (for SL and HL) takes place a few days later on Wednesday 1st May. The full exam schedule for M24 can be found here.
So, with the first exams for the new syllabus coming so soon, additional FAQs have been added to the Exams homepage on the website here.
Most of the updates during the past month have been based on the Paper 1 pre-release statement (Before One PLC). Additional top tips have been added here. There are also twelve ATL Activities that you can use with your students in preparation for the new assessment, including tasks to help students with their comprehension of the music festivals industry, a Tri-Dominoes game (two variations), embedded videos to improve contextual knowledge, and a multiple choice quiz. These activities and accompanying resources can be accessed here.
I will be running a second Think-In upskilling course focusing on the new Paper 1 on Monday 11th March. For those intersted, registration details can be found here.
In preparation for the new Paper 2, additional top tips, such as understanding the difference between the demands of 4-mark and 6-mark questions, can be accessed here. Furthermore, a new Dicey Formulae Game has been added here. You'll need to get some dice for this game (perhaps buy some large furry dice from your Departmental budget or borrow some from the Mathematics Faculty). Students should have plenty of fun with this game to help them review and revise 36 of the quantitative techniques in the syllabus!
I have also added a new (very challenging) Tri-Dominoes activity for some of the quantitative techniques in the new syllabus. This popular classroom activity can be accessed here.
Following three successful Think-In upskilling courses for the new Paper 3 (HL only), additional top tips and advice have been added here. Many thanks again to the 74 teachers who attended these training courses last month.
Other updates to the website include the following.
Students are often confused by the differences between fixed, variable, direct, and indirect costs (Unit 3.3 - Costs and revenues). Further examples and top tips have been added to this section of the website to add clarity for students here.
Teachers can download a revised version of the P&L and Balance Sheet posters showing the new prescribed format in Unit 3.4 - Final accounts. These 4 posters have been created and shared by Maria Pardo, who teaches at American School of Valencia in Spain. Many thanks for sharing the updated versions of your popular posters on InThinking, Maria!
For BMT 11 (Hofstede's cultural dimensions), a new interactive multiple choice quiz has been added here. There are 20 MCQs for students to attempt, with explanations of the answers to support students reviewing or revising this challenging topic in the syllabus.
For BMT 13 (Critical path analysis), a new multiple choice quiz has been added here. There are 15 questions, each with a short explanation of the answers.
Earlier this month, we welcomed Santiago Olmeda from Boca Prep International School in the USA as our 2,300th educator to the InThinking Business Management community! At the time of writing, we also reached another milestone with 25,036 registered students, all of who enjoy free access to the website. With the exam season coming up, why not activate Student Access for all of your students? This is completely free of charge and enables your students to access the entire site - you control what they can see and when.
Many thanks for your ongoing support of InThinking.
Wishing you and your students the very best for the busy month ahead.
