January 2023 Updates and Notices
Happy New Year!
There have been a growing number of teachers asking for clarification on what can and cannot be used as examples of social enterprises (covered in Unit 1.2 and the new Paper 3). To support teachers and students, I have added two useful definitions from the Harvard Business Review and Social Enterprise UK here.
For Unit 2.1, a new quiz has been created in recognition of the UN's International Migrants Day. There is a PDF version that you can also use with students. The link can be found here.
The new Unit 2.4 is very content heavy. For example, types of appraisal (formerly covered in Unit 2.1) are now covered as part of motivation and demotivation (for HL only students). A new "types of appraisal" quiz has been included here.
Insolvency versus bankruptcy (AO2) is an addition to the new syllabus in Unit 3.6. A video documentary about Kodak has been added to the website, including accompanying questions. Suggested answers are provided for teachers here.
A new exam practice question, with full mark scheme, has been added to Unit 3.9 Budgeting (HL only), which can be accessed here.
The new Unit 5.6 includes numerous quantitative techniques, such as the defect rate and operating leverage ratio. An updated case study on Tesla has been included here - you might be surprised by Tesla's rather high defect rate.
There are additional worked examples / questions added to support students with the Degree of Operating Leverage (DOL) calculations for this part of the syllabus (Unit 5.6). These updates can be found here.
Additional exam practice questions for Unit 5.7 have been added at the bottom of the webpage here. These questions would also work for students taking the exams in M23 and N23 (for the outgoing syllabus).
The new Unit 5.9 is full of terminology that students will need to become familiar with. Added to this section of the website is a new True or False Quiz to support students in their understanding of this topic here.
Cybercrime is a real and growing matter facing all businesses across the globe. Take a look at this infographic that shows the escalating costs of cybercrime (Unit 5.9) for businesses here.
A new SWOT analysis quiz has been added to the Business Management Toolkit (BMT) section of the website here. Teachers can activate student access so that students can have a go at the interactive quiz and/or print a PDF version of the quiz to use with students in class.
Two additional exam practice questions have been added to the BMT section on decision trees. These can be accessed here.
Important!
The subject area manager (SAM) for DP Business Management has provided an important update on the use of calculators in the new BM course. This is not stated in the update Subject Guide. Please do take a look here.
Finally, if you are after some upskilling training for aspects of the new Business Management course, please take a look at the CPD section of the website here.
Wishing you all a wonderful year ahead!
