August 2021 updates and notices
It's already August! The time when many May centres start to return for the new academic year and the November centres prepare their students for the Paper 1 case study.
The InThinking Business Management website continues to grow, with 799 registered teachers and 3,008 students (remember, you can activate Student Access for free to use with your students). Content on the website exceeded 550,000 words at the time of writing - that's around 137 Extended Essays(!) and about 10% more than the average InThinking subject website. So, many sincere thanks for your ongoing support and words of encouragement.
We've received a lot of questions about the use of primary market research for the HL IA. So, my esteemed IBEN colleague, Dr. Rima Puri, and I have provided some practical suggestions in this section of the website on Top tips for HL IA – Primary research. To access this, please click the link here.
For SL students, Rhys Thomas - my esteemed ESF colleague at Renaissance College in Hong Kong - has written this wonderful article that will appeal to your students as they prepare for their IA. To access this, please click the link here.
Sustainability is featured in Unit 5.1 of the current syllabus, but will be a new key concept from 2022 in the new syllabus. Additional ATL Activities have been added to this section of the syllabus but should also be relevant for use when you teach the new course. To access this, please click the link here.
With the help of numerous colleagues, the list of A grade Extended Essays has been extended to 45 research questions (see what we just did there?) that should help to guide students in formulating their own RQ. To access this, please click the link here.
Being an IB educator is more than just teaching our subject(s) to our students. Tolerance is an important trait of an effective learner and permeates numerous aspects of the IB Learner Profile. Read more about tolerance and the IB student here.
Finally, for colleagues who are relatively new to the world of IB Business Management and those with new colleagues joining their schools, please be reminded of the upcoming Category 1 IB Workshop that I will be facilitating later this month. If you're interested or know of colleagues who might be, please click the link here.
If you've yet to join the InThinking Business Management teacher support group on Facebook, please feel free to join the community of over 890 teachers here.
With best wishes for the busy month ahead.
