IA official assessment criteria

Assessment criteria sheets

In this page you will find the IB wording for the
 Official IA assessment criteria. on MyIB.

I have made two different assessment criteria sheets that are easier to print,

  • One criterion per A4 page on two A4 sheets
  • All criteria on one double sided A3 sheet.

There is also a template for  teacher comments to the moderator about the marking which complements these sheets well. It is designed to be used to record information which is uploaded for the moderator.

Biology IA Assessment criteria - two A4 sheets

These sheets could be used for marking as they are, but marking will be more accurate if you have annotated the sheet with the IB's extra clarifying details.

You can find these extra details yourself in;

To save you time, these details have been compiled into the Biology IA detailed teacher's marking sheet (with reminders), on the page IA Investigation 2025 - marking sheets of the Inthinking website.

IA teacher marking notes - A4 sheet

The most useful notes about grading:

  • explain why this aspect mark is awarded,
  • describe why the mark above was not awarded.
  • reference specific statements by the student and specific criteria wording.
  • explain any benefit of doubt (BOD) given, or if a part was considered too vague (TV)
  • avoid revealing the identity / gender of the student.
