Rocky shore - abiotic factors
Rocky shores are one of the most well studied examples of zonation caused by abiotic factors. As the environment changes quickly from being submerged in the sea, with little change in water temperature and protection from UV rays, to a mostly terrestrial environment where the air temperature changes a lot during the day, UV light can be intense and there is a shortage of water for several hours of each day.
