This series of activities will explore the four different categories of cell signalling molecules in animals: hormones, neurotransmitters, cytokines and calcium ions. There are a number of different types of hormones and neurotransmitters which will be considered. The ways that they enable communication between cells will be compared. If serotonin is the "happy" chemical, what might cause people to become depressed?
