May 2025 Paper 1: Sample Response 3 (Real Estate)

This week, we are publishing our 3rd Paper 1 from this May 2025 examination.  We’ve published one exemplar, found here, that scores higher than this model example.  We’ve also published one exemplar, found here, that scores lower than this one.

The goal is to have a variety of model examples because you have a variety of students in your classroom.  You can compare and contrast these three together.  You can use this one as a stand-alone exemplar.

On the whole, this example is great to show students.  It does a lot right.  There is consistent close-language analysis; there is good attention paid to the guiding question; it “gets” the text and what the author is doing.  But, it’s not perfect.  The candidate could have covered more ground.  They could have been more nuanced in their unpacking of the evidence and in demonstrating how language shapes meaning.  And the conclusion could be (should be) more than one sentence, suggesting a better approach to time management was needed.

As always, use what works for you in your context with your students.

Best,

Tim and David
