How CNN Presents the Dangers of Artificial Intelligence
This week, we are continuing our work with artificial intelligence. We have already posted a set of lessons about it here. Now, we are taking a look at how CNN presents the dangers of artificial intelligence to their readers. These are, of course, curated articles. CNN also presents the positives of artificial intelligence too!
This will take you about two lessons. The first lesson has the whole class working together on one article about relying on AI too much. After a lesson starter, the whole class will read the article and then answer 8 questions. Go slow here. Help students expand on their analysis and ability to analyze key words and images. After answering the questions, a final discussion with a short ending reflection brings it all together.
Lesson two begins with a quick recap of the first lesson before a jigsaw activity that has students closely analyzing one CNN article in a small group before presenting their information out to a new group. Another whole class discussion and reflection ends this lesson.
As a final note, it's important to point out that this is not a non-literary body of work. CNN cannot be considered the “author” here as each article has a byline. Because the author is named, CNN cannot become the author of the article. As always, use what works for you in your context and modify anything that doesn't fit your needs!
