Text Type Debates (Inside Out 2)

This week, we are continuing our work with the film Inside Out 2.  On this page you will find 3 sets of debates (and 6 total texts).  Some are new texts and others are ones that were found in our previous post about the film.

The debates are set up to have students think critically and analytically about their text type.  They then debate their classmates (debate prompts are provided).  To some extent, the debate itself is an arbitrary exercise.  But the process of having to come up with claims and evidence in relation to the choices made by the authors is great practice for Paper 1.  And this helps students understand how authors of different text types use different techniques to get their point across.

Use the resources as you see fit.  Maybe you just want to have just one debate.  Perhaps you want to go through all of the resources.  There’s more than enough here to spread over several lessons, but you know your context and your students best.  Adapt accordingly.

Best,

Tim and David
