Inside Out 2 - 5 Text Types

This week, we are posting about the movie Inside Out 2.  Released in 2024, it went on to gross almost 1.7 billion dollars.  There’s a very good chance your students have seen this film!

This set of resources revolves not around the film itself, but around all the other text types about the film.  There’s a promotional poster, a trailer, a film review in an online newspaper, an interview with two psychologists who consulted on the film, and a news article about anxiety in relation to the movie.

The aim of this page is to provide you with curated materials, resources, links, and more to explore a diverse range of text types in relation to the film Inside Out 2.  What’s also interesting is the ways in which the materials are presented.  Students are not studying a non-literary body of work (that would be the film itself, and is certainly something you can do in your class if you want).

It’s important to remember that there’s a time and a place in your course for not teaching a non-literary body of work.  These resources are well-placed at either the very start of the course for introducing a variety of text types, but they may also be used after the IO and HLE have been completed (in preparation for Paper 1).

If you are looking to study a variety of text types – all around the same topic – this set of resources is for you!

Best,

Tim and David
