On the site, we aim to provide a variety of Paper 1 samples that range in marks.  With that aim mind, we are publishing our fourth sample response to the May 2023 Paper 1 (No Diet, No Detox).

This fourth exemplar scores 15 out of 20 points.  This is a solid response, in other words.  Of course, there’s room for improvement.  Comparing and contrasting this response to #1 (here) or #2 (here) might be something that interests you and your students.  They both score higher than this exemplar and discussing why is a useful class activity.  On the other hand, this exemplar gets higher marks than sample response #3 (here).  Why?  Again, that discussion with your class and your students can lead to fruitful insights about writing.   

You now have exemplars that score 12, 15, 18 and 20 points respectively for this particular exam text.  We will be publishing two more Paper 1s and one more Paper 2 before the May 2024 exams.  Our goal is to support you and your students in the lead-up to the exam and we know exemplars are one way to help reach that goal.
