Thank you for 2021

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for this year – 2021. We hope, if you are in a northern hemisphere school, you will have the opportunity over the next few weeks to rest and revitalize before returning to school in 2022. If you are in a southern hemisphere school, you are likely to have started an even longer break and are unlikely to be reading this! My own school break begins today and I have little planned beyond family time, walks in the forest beside my house, and some reading. There may be pedestrian skiing too, but there will be no images of this to share on the InThinking site, you will be relieved. I do include an image of my balcony which, you will see, I won’t be sitting on any day soon. For no reason I can identify, my youngest son has recently taken it upon himself to learn Russian. His new pursuit reminded me that I have never – not yet – read Colin Thubron’s classic travelogue Among the Russians. At a couple of hundred pages, reading it is less of an ambition than completing Proust’s In Search of Lost Time, and it has at last found its way to my bedside table and is waiting to be read any day soon. Life’s small pleasures. We have one more page to post before the end of the year. When we return in 2022, we do so hopefully invigorated, with a range of new initiatives, and a strong desire to continue to support your teaching. On behalf of Tim and I, thanks for 2021. We’ll see you again in 2022.

David
