November 2023 Updates & Notices

Dear InThinking Business Management subscribers

Welcome to the November updates and notices for this website.

Last month, we were delighted to hear that the Dominican Republic became the 115th country to join the InThinking Business Management community - an extended very warm welcome to Paula Bonetti and her students at Saint George School!

In October, we also welcomed our 21,000th students to the InThinking Business Management website. Please remember that all of your students can enjoy free access to the entire website (except for the Exam Papers section which is exclusively reserved for teachers). You can register all your students via the Student Access link from the homepage.

October 2023 also saw the end of the previous syllabus as candidates in November centres sat their exams. A majority of the time spent on updates to the InThinking Business Management website was for the N23 Paper 1 examination, with over 60 exam practice questions and mark schemes added here.

With the Paper 2 examination having taken place on 24th October, that officially sees the end of the old syllabus. There will be no more pre-released case study for Paper 1 in the same way that we have seen for the past 21 years. Neither will we see the CUEGIS essays appear again in Paper 2 exams. I will leave the contents of the old syllabus on the website for a little while in case teachers want to refer back to some of the old content and resources.

Other updates during the past month are highlighted below.

  • An additional True or False Quiz for Unit 4.5 has been added here. There are 25 questions in this quiz for this large section of the new syllabus. Please use the link here to access the other quizzes for Unit 4.5.

  • For Unit 5.4, the students at Codrington School, The International School of Barbados have created some fantastic revision posters. Many thanks to their teacher, Salvador Barros, for sharing some of these with the InThinking community! You can access the posters here. If you would also like to contribute any resources that you feel would benefit other educators and students, please do get in touch with us.

  • Additional exam practice questions for BMT 7 (Descriptive Statistics) have been added here.

  • A new Paper 2 exam practice question, based on Vanilla Miel, an Indian partnership, has been added here. Many thanks to Dr. Rima Puri for creating and sharing this with us.

  • In order to reach the top mark band in the new Paper 2, students are now required to explain the limitations of the case study or stimulus material. This is a challenging skill for most students. To support them with this, consider introducing the GAPS framework (i.e., gaps in the case study / stimulus materials), which can be accessed here (see Top tip 2 under FAQ 6).

  • As many schools continue to work with their first cohort of students for the new IA, please be reminded of the many supporting resources on the InThinking website for this component of the course. Content coverage of the new IA comes to over 34,000 words, so there is certainly a lot to explore on the site here.

At the recent Category 1 Business Management workshop in Barcelona, hosted by InThinking, numerous participants asked about additional ideas to help integrate the key concepts into their lessons. Two additional examples have been added here, with images on Google Slides that you can share with students for some in-depth classroom discussions:

(1) Ethics and Marketing

(2) Creativity and Marketing

Finally, as we all put the old syllabus aside and focus exclusively on the new syllabus (first exams M24), please note that the new glossary of key terms has been updated here. Please suggest to students to bookmark this page for ease of access throughout the remainder of their course.

In addition to the monthly newsletter, teachers are also welcome to join our Facebook and WhatsApp teacher support groups here:

  1. Facebook
  2. WhatsApp

If you have any lesson ideas, resources, comments, or suggestions that you would like to share with other InThinking subscribers, please send them to me ([email protected]) and I will try to include them in the next Newsletter.

Many thanks to all subscribers who are using the site regularly with their students. Your ongoing support on InThinking Business Management is highly appreciated.
