October 2023 Updates and Notices

Dear InThinking Business Management subscribers

Many thanks for your ongoing support of the website. In early September, we welcomed Justin Clouden from American International School of Bucharest in Romania as the 2,000th teacher registered on InThinking Business Management. Welcome to the InThinking community, Justin!

In September, we also welcomed Kosovo 🇽🇰 as the 114th country to join InThinking Business Management. An extended warm welcome to Rebecca Bowery and her students at IGL School (International Learning Group School) in Kosovo.

At the time of writing, we have 2,079 registered teachers as well as 19,995 students who enjoy free access to the website. Your continual support is highly appreciated.

To support teachers with embedding concept-based learning in their classrooms, an additional ATL Activity (based on Lego) has been added here.

Other updates to the website include the following:

  • Additional cash flow forecast questions (Unit 3.7) have been added here.

  • Two new interactive true or false quizzes, with full explanations, have been added to Unit 4.5 Pricing methods. The SL & HL quiz can be found here. The HL only quiz can be found here.

  • An worked example and additional exam practice question for target price and target profit (Unit 5.5 Break even analysis) have been added here.

  • An interactive and self-marked true or false quiz has been added to Unit 5.1 (Introduction to operations management) here. There are explanations for each of the answers to support students' understanding of this topic.

  • Additional exam practice questions and mark schemes for Unit 5.6 Stock control charts (HL only) have been added here.

Instructions of the IA uploads have been added here. Whilst this may seem rather early, this topic did come up in both of the recent IA workshops hosted by InThinking, so I have added the instructions to support centres a little earlier than initially planned.

Following two successful Think-In upskilling courses for the new IA back in September, additional tips and advice have been added to the FAQ section for the IA here.

A new definitions quiz for the BMT Circular Business Models has been added here to help students differentiate between the 5 CBMs in the syllabus. There is also a PDF version that teachers can download to use with their students in the classroom.

Additional resources for BMT Hofstede's cultural dimensions (HL only) have been added here. This section now includes in-depth content of each cultural dimension, interactive quizzes, a MCQ task, revision flashcards, and exam-style questions with mark schemes.

Following from the discussions at the Category 1 InThinking workshop in Barcelona, hosted in collaboration with the IB, additional top tips for Paper 3 have been added here and here.

These two pages will add further clarity regarding the meaning of social enterprises for the purpose of IB assessment.

Also following from the workshop in Barcelona is this "Concepts Diamonds" activity that will help your students to integrate their chosen key concept in the business research project. Please refer to Top tip 1 on this page.

For those teaching or reviewing Unit 2.4 (Motivation and Demotivation), please note there are a set of posters added here to use with students or as classroom displays. Some of these posters have been created and shared by Tahmidul Haq Ansari. The others have been designed by students at Bishop Mackenzie International Secondary School, Malawi (many thanks to their teacher Angelica Jones for facilitating this activity). Both Tahmid and Angelica are regular contributors to the InThinking Business Management community.

Finally, we are delighted to share two resources created by Nikita Mota who teaches at Fundacion Gimnasio Ingles de Armenia (GI School), in Colombia.

  • The first is for Unit 1.2 (unlimited vs limited liability). This activity helps students who are confused by the notion of limited versus unlimited liability and can be accessed here.

  • The second resource from Nikita supports students in understanding customer profiles and target markets (Unit 4.2). The task can be found here.

If you would also like to contribute any resources that you feel would benefit other educators and students, please do get in touch with us.

Please note that teachers can activate Student Access from the homepage to provide their students with complimentary access to the resources on the website.

Finally, please allow me to take this opportunity to wish all candidates in November centres the very best as they embark on their examinations later this month. This will be the final cohort of students taking exams for the outgoing syllabus (final exams N23).
