August 2023 Updates and Notices

Dear Newsletter Subscribers

Welcome to the August 2023 updates and notices!

It was a pleasure to welcome Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 as the 113th country to join the InThinking Business Management community. A very warm welcome to Invento The Uzbek International School!

It’s been "Barbiemania" throughout July with the release of the Warner Bros hit fantasy comedy, the Barbie movie. With over 100 brand partners, Mattel, has excelled in its unique marketing strategy promoting the Barbie brand. A new exam practice question based on the Barbie case study has been added here (scroll done to the “Exam Practice Question” tab).

A 13-page PDF guide for business plans (part of the Business Management Toolkit) has been added here. This document has been produced and shared by Shopify in colloboration with Project Management.

How about this for taking on board the Business Management Toolkit to a new level? The IB DP students and teachers at Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania IB World School in Maharashtra, India, rummaged through unused products at home and upcycled them into innovative utility or decorative items as part of the "Upcycling Day Challenge", covered in the section on circular business models on the website. This was a collaborative project for the Business Management, ESS, Visual Arts, and CAS departments at the school. Find out more about this project and see some of the photos from the day on the website here.

Following the recent publication of the May 2023 exams, additional research questions that were graded an A in the EE have been added here. There are now 70 RQs here to guide your students.

A new FAQ section about the BM EE has also been added here.

Five examples of appropriate Extended Essay research questions and methodologies have been added here. These were all awarded an A or B grade in the recent May 2023 examination. Many thanks to Angie Thomopoulou for sharing this resource with the InThinking Business Management community! Angie teaches at The American College of Greece.

Additional top tips for the three compulsory reflection sessions for the EE have been added here.

As many schools start to welcome back their students, there will be a shift towards the first round of exams in May 2024. To support teachers and students with the new external assessments, the section of Command Terms has been updated here. You can also download the command terms posters to display in your classrooms to provide additional stimuli for your students.

Finally, teachers and students in November centres will be anticipating the launch of the pre-release Paper 1 case study in early August. Please bookmark the webpage here for top tips, activities, and assessment advice for the Paper 1 examination.
