June 2023 Updates & Notices
Dear InThinking subscribers
For those in May centres, I hope the Paper 1 and Paper 2 examinations went well for your students.
Some of the updates on the website during the past month include the following (not an exhaustive list):
Additional exam practice questions for Unit 3.8 (Investment appraisal) have been added here.
For the new (and large) Unit 5.9, a new exam practice question on data mining has been added here.
To support students with their learning and revision, a series of new True or False quizzes have been added to the website. For example, there are 30 T/F questions here for Unit 4.1 (The role of marketing).
A series of revision flashcards has been added to the Business Management Toolkit (BMT) section of the website. For example, there are 10+ flashcards for students to use for revision purposes here for Hofstede's cultural dimensions (scroll down to the " BMT 11 - Revision Flashcards '' tab).
- In addition, there have been 220 Smart Quiz questions for the BMT that have been uploaded. These are self-marked questions, including a range of interactive multiple choice questions, that students can use to support their learning. Navigate to the relevant BMT in order to use these quizzes.
For example, for BMT 2 (Ansoff matrix), there are 15 multiple choice questions here and for BMT 4 (Boston Consulting Group matrix), there are 20 multiple choice questions that have been added here. You can set up Student Access for students to use these interactive and self-marked quizzes.
A growing list of FAQs and answers for the new Internal Assessment have been added here.
Additional advice on formulating suitable research questions (RQ) for the new IA have been added here, including top tips on what unsuitable RQs look like.
Many thanks to the teachers who joined us for the recent EE upskilling course, where these additional titles and RQs were shared and discussed. Additional RQs that achieved a B or A grade have been added here.
A commonly asked question about the new IA is how it differs from the EE. There are at least 13 differences between these two assessments - take a look at FAQ1 here to find out what these are.
Also, have a look at this new quiz to see if you can identify which of the 10 research questions are better suited to the IA and which ones work better for the EE - scroll down to "ATL Activity 2 (Thinking skills) - IA vs EE Research Questions?" here.
A new Paper 2 Section A exam practice question (Gel Nail) has been added to the Exams section of the website here. This question covers the topics of multinational companies, decision trees, and non-financial factors that impact location and investment decisions.
For the new Paper 3 (HL only), additional top tips have been added, including writing frameworks for writing a detailed plan of action for the 17-mark essay here. There are also additional top tips for demonstrating evaluation skills for this extended response question.
And finally, a new Paper 3 (HL only) exam practice paper has been added here. It is based on a relatively new social enterprise called Power of Active Love (PAL), which was set up last year in Wuxi, China. There is an accompanying mark scheme to support you with this new component of the course.
A huge "Thank You" to all 212 participants who joined one of our InThinking training sessions during this academic year. We'll be back next year with Think-In virtual events for new teachers, the IA, EE, the BMT, quantitative techniques, and the new external exams (Papers 1, 2, and 3). You will be able to find details of these courses on the "CPD" tab from the homepage of the website.
If there is anything else you'd like on offer, please drop me a message ([email protected]) and we will try to accommodate your CPD needs.
Finally, for those in May centres, all the best for the upcoming examination results for your DP and CP students!
With best wishes for the month ahead.
