Welcome to the December 2024 notices and updates for InThinking Business Management!
Some of the additions and updates to the website include:
A new set of exam-style questions for Unit 2.7 (Approaches to conflict by employees) based on the recent strike action at Boeing can be found here.
Updates and additional advice for the Business Management Extended Essay, following the recent InThinking upskilling course.
Updates and additional advice for Paper 2, following the recent November 2024 exams, with specific focus on quantitative techniques.
Updates and additional advice for Paper 3 (HL only), following the recent November 2024 exam.
The FAQ section for the Internal Assessment has been updated based on feedback from the IB regarding the IAs submitted by students in the May 2024 cohort.
Earlier in November, I had the privilege of visiting colleagues at ACS International and St. Joseph's Institute International in Singapore for in-school workshops. The workshop inspired me to create a new resource to support teachers and students in writing their 17-mark extended response in Paper 3. The "Top tips for the 17-mark essay: Business strategy" site page can be accessed here. Many thanks to Pamela Ng (Head of Middle Division) and Jamuna Madhav (CAS Coordinator) at ACS International and Raj Bista (Head of Department) at St. Joseph's Institute International for organizing this event! It was great to see you again and to connect with other colleagues in Singapore and Malaysia.
InThinking Think-In courses
"Schools can't become the best places for students to learn and grow unless we make them the best places for teachers to work and grow."
- Dr. Julie Hasson, Educational researcher, consultant, and author
Many thanks to the 41 IB educators from across the world who joined our Think-In upskilling courses this week, focusing on quantitative techniques for Paper 2, social enterprises for Paper 3, and the Business Management Extended Essay (final exams N26).
It was a very early start for many colleagues, and a very late finish for others (2:30am in a couple of cases). Thank you for giving up your time to join us, as well as the engaging discussions. It was a pleasure to have worked with you all!

IB Category 3 Business Management Workshop: Internal Assessment (21 - 23 March 2025)
This Category 3 IB workshop is suitable for all experienced Diploma Programme (DP) Business Management teachers and those who have completed a Category 1 IB workshop.
This workshop will equip you to deliver the Business Management Internal Assessment to students with confidence as you generate useful resources and devise appropriate activities with fellow workshop participants.
Gain key understandings, tools, and resources to adapt and develop your practice in line with the DP Business Management Internal Assessment (IA). In this practical workshop, you will examine the assessment criteria, mark sample internal assessments, ask questions and learn how to develop a robust programme underpinned by appropriate IB pedagogy and a range of useful resources.
Participants will closely examine the internal assessment, be clear about its requirements and be prepared to apply what you learn in a manner that supports the IB mission statement, the learner profile and other core areas of the Diploma Programme.

Festive season classroom activities
For schools that observe the Christmas season, here are two ATL activities that students might enjoy at this time of year.
Christmas Trees MNCs Activity - This activity has ben adapted from the popular “Tell me the brand without telling me the brand” activity. Decorate the Christmas ornaments with clues about a brand, without naming the brand, e.g., brand logo, slogan, or catchphrase. Each tree should represent multinational companies from only one of the IB’s regions (AP, AEM, or AM).
Christmas Advent Activity - This activity requires students to create an advent calendar based on famous brands that use the numbers, ranging from 1 - 24. The activity links the key concept creativity with contents in the marketing unit of the syllabus. It also works with well the ATL skills of thinking, social (collaboration), research, and communications.
The above is a variation of a completed tree from IB educator Deepti Nair and her students at White School International, India.
