How to use the site

Welcome to the InThinking French MYP site: Bienvenue !

Before you start your journey, here are a few tips to help you navigate on the site.

Once your teacher has invited you to the site, you will have direct access to many pages and resources that will help you learn French, practice your language skills and study for your assessments.

Your teacher will guide you through your learning and assign you tasks to complete during class time or as homework. However, most of the activities and language exercises are interactive and are meant to be completed independently as they will provide you with instantaneous feedback. This will allow you to learn at your own pace, challenge yourself with more difficult activities, develop your curiosity, and take ownership of your learning journey.

DIFFERENT LEARNING PATHWAYS

Access to the units

Look at the top menu. When you click on the main heading UNITÉS (apprenants), you can see the three proficiency levels:

  • Beginner for Phases 1-2
  • Capable for Phases 3-4
  • Proficient for Phases 5-6

When you click on your proficiency level, you can see the different units. Each unit has all the resources related to the concepts and the theme studied :

  • the unit plan
  • the online activities that help develop the four language skills
  • the interactive language exercises (grammar and vocabulary) to be completed independently
  • the text types with their list of specific norms and conventions, examples to illustrate each of them, and questions to practice recognizing them
  • the ATL skill.s further developed and used in this unit

Remember: you can always go back to learning materials you have already studied and/or look at other materials that might not belong to your proficiency level.

Direct access to learning activities

You might also want to focus on your language skills only and practise:

  • listening (criterion A)
  • reading (criterion B)
  • speaking (criterion C)
  • writing (criterion D)

Click on Activités (compréhension et expression) and on the proficiency level you are interested in. The activities have been grouped under the six global contexts.

Direct access to language exercises

If you want to enhance your grasp of the language and practise either grammar points or vocabulary, click on Exercices (langue). These online interactive exercises are integrated in the units. However, they can be done independently, regardless of your proficiency level.

  • Grammaire : the exercises are grouped according to the grammar points they are concentrating on (e.g. adjectives, verbs, sentence structure, etc.)
  • Vocabulaire : you will find a list of the big themes related to the units.
  • Expressions idiomatiques : these focus on the idiomatic phrases grouped under topics (e.g. food, body parts, etc.)

All these vocabulary exercises include methods such as:

  • multiple-choice with one or more correct answers
  • gap answers or fill-in-the-blanks
  • matching and dragging
  • True and False

Direct access to the types of texts

In order to review the conventions for different types of texts, click on Types de textes and choose the one you need in the list. Each page lists the characteristics of the chosen format and provides examples with a few questions or exercises.

Direct access to songs

French songs are included in units, usually under EXERCICES DE LANGUE as they are used for vocabulary, but you can listen to them and complete the exercises separately, without having to look for them in units. If you click on the three dots, you will find the tab Chansons francophones. You will then select them through their topics/contents or through the proficiency levels. Once again, remember that you can always have fun and learn something that belongs to another proficiency level than yours!
