Practising Data & Stats Skills - Recycling

This activity allows you to practice your data and statistics skills by graphing and analysing some data on recycling habits.
A student wants to investigate whether one's commitment to recycling varies by gender. The student gathers data by interviewing a random sample of 216 people and asking them about their recycling habits.
The data has been recorded and organised in the table below.
NOTE: This is a highly simplified example designed to allow you to practice what you've learned.
| --- Frequency of recycling --- | ||||
| All the time | Sometimes | Never | Total | |
| Male | 50 | 32 | 25 | 107 |
| Female | 40 | 26 | 43 | 109 |
| Total | 90 | 58 | 68 | 216 |
3. Describe how you would proceed from here to analyse the data further. Consider:
- What is the goal − to compare variables or find a relationship between variables?
- What is the most appropriate statistical test?
- What would be the testing hypotheses?
- Carry out the test and write up the results.
