HL: Nitrogen Cycle Card Sort

This is a simple activity that uses cards to help construct a nitrogen cycle.

 Teacher only box

Prepare these cards prior to the lesson. Have them lay them out on a surface where they can draw between and around the boxes - either on a piece of paper, a white board or an erasable surface.

Make sure to emphasise that arrows should touch the store boxes but not go over the edges.

All the flows are transformations except absorption. See 2.3 Overview for complete cycle.

Student Task

Use these cards to construct a nitrogen cycle. The words in block capitals are STORES and the other words are flows.

Draw arrows between the stores and label them using the flows.

Code the stores as biotic or abiotic and as organic or inorganic.

Code the flows as transfers or transformations.
