Fieldwork Providers
While running workshops I have collected a few names of fieldwork providers. I cannot personally vouch for any of these providers but they may be worth investigating.
Both Laura and I both run our own field trips from school using an ex-field studies council leader. Being based in the Swiss Alps, we are lucky to have many opportunities at our feet.
Please be aware that field work is considered to be an integral part of this course.
Location | Fieldwork Provider | Additional Notes |
North Italy | Variety of options available
World Wide | Take school groups or individuals when older. Good option for an extended essay. Work with scientists on their projects
UK and World Wide | The FSC have many centres in the UK well focused on the curriculum but you can also organize for an “expert” to come to a location of your choice and help run your field work.
Austria | Name of the Project: Arbeit in der Natur | Suggested by a workshop participant – service project work on Alpine maintenance |
Dubai / Emirates | khor kalba - mangroves | Recommended by a previous workshop participant |
North Thailand | Field Centre in Northern Thailand - Pang Soong Lodge | Run by the Track of the Tiger, is also in Northern Thailand in a remote forest location (no mobiles!) although only one hour from Chiang Mai. The lodge has a purpose built field laboratory and is well equipped for studies in forest ecology and management, freshwater ecology, water quality and catchment management studies etc. Support staff are available to help or lead the students. |
World Wide | Interesting field work opportunities for individuals and groups working with scientists
Cyprus | ||
South Africa | Kwamadwala A private nature reserve near Kruger National Park.
Bahamas | Island School in Eleuthera, Bahamas. | Work with IB students |
Canada | Huntsman Marine Centre in New Brunswick, Canada | Have worked with IB students |
Singapore | In Singapore the ecofieldtrips group organise a variety of fieldwork excursions across the region. | Their trips to Tioman Island are popular with Singapore schools. |
North Thailand | In Northern Thailand Bryan and Rosie Massingham run the Maekok River Lodge, which includes purpose built student accomodation for fieldwork and activities. Includes equipment, staff and classrooms.
Mexico | They are experienced with both Bio and ESS field work and have very knowledgeable staff and good rates
Switzerland and Europe | http://www.fieldworkspecialists.com/ | Highly recommended by both Zoe and Laura. Ben and Nic can come to your school and support IA's and all components of 2.5. |
Spain | Barcelona Field Studies Centre | This is a very well known provider for geographers but could well be useful for ESS. |
