Many years ago now, the novelist and playwright Michael Frayn used to write a newspaper column in which he commented on current society and fashions. One of his more entertaining inventions was a couple called the Crumbles: friends who saw themselves as complete authorities on correct behaviour and the latest fashions. This of course was a perfect vehicle for Frayn"s satiric and witty commentaries on contemporary life...
