When learning through activities that are assessed with this criterion, students will identify issues of a societal or environmental nature that can be addressed through the application of scientific knowledge and understanding. They will evaluate the efficacy and extent of any scientific solutions, and consider what other implications there may be. They will use scientific language with precision and where they have referred to the work of others they will use recognised standards for citation and referencing.

Typically, when learning through criterion D activities students will be acquiring and demonstrating approaches to learning of information literacy skills and media literacy skills. They will demonstrate critical thinking and transfer skills to apply their knowledge and understanding to authentic problems and situations.
