Marked student tasks

This section of the site archives marked examples of student work, annotated with comments to help teachers standardise their application of the MYP Sciences assessment criteria.

MYP Sciences assessment criteria B and C are closely performance-based ('performative') and teachers typically find it relatively straightforward to assign a level in these tasks. Criteria A and D on the other hand assess cognitive performance (with command terms like outline, describe, explain) and it can be more challenging sometimes for teachers to assign a level with confidence in consistency. It's important therefore for teachers to standardise their judgements with colleagues, certainly within their school (across the Sciences disciplines), perhaps even across schools. This pages in this section of the site provide some examples of assessed student work from my own practice and from partner teachers in other schools, with notes about the way in which the criteria have been applied. They are not deliberately chosen to all be 'good' or 'excellent' examples - quite often, those are the easiest levels to award, and the real head-scratching occurs perhaps when we are trying to make a call between a 2 and a 3. For obvious reasons, all the examples are anonymised, although I have credited schools and teachers where permission has been given to do so. If you have interesting tasks and scripts that you think could be useful here, do please contact me - I would be delighted to look over a sample and provide an opinion, too.
