Revised Course - First Assessment 2030

New Curriculum on Its Way

The current curriculum will be replaced for first teaching in 2028/29 according to the latest Diploma Programme Updates document issued in September 2026 (available on MyIB). The precise details are sketchy at this point, but it is stated that the innovative design of the existing course will likely remain. The new Guide will be published in early 2028 in order for teaching to begin later that year.

Simplified Syllabus with more Student Choice

What has been confirmed is that the revised course will adopt a simplified syllabus structure, while the assessment tasks and criteria have been modified to increase student choice, reduce complexity, and improve alignment across the DP arts subjects.

This suggests that the spirit of the current course will be preserved, even as the framework around it is streamlined. The current course will have its final assessment in November 2029, with the first assessment of the new course taking place in May 2030.

Support Materials

Beyond the Guide itself, a new Teacher Support Materials document will be produced and updated assessed student work examples will be published following its release, giving teachers the resources to prepare for the transition.

As always, we will share further information with the community as it becomes available, and we encourage colleagues to keep an eye on the Programme Resource Centre (through MyIB) in early 2028 for the official documentation.
