Open-ended learning/teaching can present challenges. Even though offering options is an important aspect of seeking relevance, one must keep in mind that content and basic music-listening skills are inherent in the delivery of any music course. To build listening skills, the music must be relative and practical to the student. They must have some sort of anchor on which to build upon their musical understandings.
