A child's language

Since Jack, the narrator of "Room", is five years old, the whole novel is written in a representation of the kind of language that a five year old would know and use. I say "representation" because of course no real five year old could produce a coherent 400 page novel. However, we immediately recognise from the first page of the novel that the narration is not "adult" - Donoghue has successfully created a style of language...
