Tasks

Overview

Student access allows you to set and monitor the following kinds of student tasks: READING, QUIZ, WRITING, AUDIO, DISCUSSION. These tasks can be completed, graded, and annotated online.

Tasks be completed in three different modes:
1. Task mode Task are set by the teacher and completed, graded, and annotated online.
2. Exam mode As above, but tasks is done under exam conditions with a time limit.
3. Self-study mode Students complete tasks and see their scores or model answers without being monitored by teachers.

We can also distinguish between smart tasks and manual tasks. Smart tasks are ones that have a definite right or wrong answer and so can be graded automatically by the system. Quizzes - multiple-choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank etc - are smart tasks. Manual tasks are ones that involve an element of judgement, and so are best graded by hand. Written tasks and audio tasks are manual tasks.

Task mode

Task mode is the default mode for setting tasks. Use task mode when you want to track and grade student work and put the grades in the grade book.

If you set a page as a task and the page contains a quiz, the score will automatically appear in the grade book when it is submitted by the student. If the page contains a written task, it can be completed and sent to the teacher who can then grade and annotate it, and return it to the student.

You can add a task either by going to the "Task manager" for a group in "My groups" and clicking "Add task", or by going to "All tasks" and clicking "Add task".
