InThinking DP Physics team
As 2026 gets underway, we're happy to share news of the new team at InThinking DP Physics.
Paul Morris began writing as a travelling teacher, moving from his native UK to live and work in Mexico City, Madrid, Paris, London, and now Switzerland. He co-authored four titles in the Discovering the MYP series for IB Publications and now edits Hodder Education's MYP by Concept series. He developed and co-authored Hodder Education's IB Diploma Physics (3rd Edition) with John Allum, and science resources for the national educational systems of Qatar and Sweden. He has been an IBDP Coordinator and Deputy Principal, an IB-MYP Coordinator and Head of Science, teaching Physics and examining TOK. He has also worked as a consultant to IB schools in the UK and led teacher workshops internationally. Already speaking French and Spanish, Paul is learning Russian very slowly, and works off any stress running, cross-country skiing, and playing guitar - all of which with much enthusiasm but little technique!

Danny Doucette has been teaching physics for about 20 years, including middle school, the IB Diploma, and introductory and intermediate university courses in Mongolia, Latvia, and the USA. He recently returned home to Halifax, Canada, where he teaches DP Physics, TOK, and the provincial curriculum at a public high school. In 2021, he completed a physics PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, where his scholarship focused on laboratory learning and equity. Weekends find him tramping through the backwoods of Mi’kma’ki with his partner and kid, seeking serenity in old-growth forests. He thinks physics is the coolest science, and loves helping students discover it for themselves and supporting teachers in trying out new approaches to teaching it. He is excited to share his expertise about pedagogical techniques for teaching physics.

Emma Mitchell has been a co-author on the site since 2018, in addition to her roles as DP Physics and TOK teacher and DP Coordinator in London and UWC Red Cross Nordic. Following master's research on girls and post-compulsory physics, she completed a Doctorate in Education at UCL, exploring how students make curriculum choices and their expectations of university (winning a Jeff Thompson Award from the IB). With Chris Hamper, she co-authored Pearson's Physics for the IB Diploma Programme textbook and produced InThinking's StudyIB Revision Site. Emma became a mum in 2025 and hopes to continue juggling senior leadership, teaching and workshops - so she's overjoyed to have Paul and Danny in charge! In Emma's (rare!) free moments, she sings with local choirs and gets outdoors.
Our ultimate aim is simple: to help as many DP Physics teachers around the world as possible. We have lots of ideas about how to achieve this aim through this InThinking website, and you will notice additions and changes over the coming days, weeks and months. This resource for teachers and their classes exists because of the dedication of Chris Hamper, who remains internationally recognized for everything he has done to support the DP Physics community for over 30 years. We would also like to say a huge thanks to Tim Kirk for his work enriching our materials in 2025.
