I had originally thought of doing this by getting students to reduce the width by cutting the paper. This would waste a lot of paper which maybe not expensive but is difficult to get hold of . Adding strips on top of each other also solves the problem of the crocodile clips only being in contact with a small bit of the paper but introduces the new problem of poor contact between the strips.
