This is a cryptic crossword, the clues are not direct, here is some information as to how they work:

  • Each clue has a cryptic part and a definition. "modern mass gives English physicist" would be Newton. "modern mass" is the cryptic part (new ton), "English physicist" defines the answer.
  • A number of clues are anagrams. "g meant arrangement has North and South" is an anagram of magnet. Look out for nonsensical word combinations and words like arrange or mix.
  • There are some hidden words. "Damp rot only hides positive particle" is proton. Look for words like hidden.
