In the middle of group 4 project and everyone is having fun. The idea of the day is to make the most powerful wind turbine out of paper and a bit of card. The source an electric fan which produces more of a light breeze than a wind, however its enough to turn a simple turbine. A lot of groups have opted for the pinwheel model but there are a lot of variations on the theme. At the end of the day the machine that lifts most mass in the least time wins. At first students were pleased to simply lift a mass but soon realised that to win they have to refine their design. More efficient turbines, reduced friction, better lifting mechanisms. Interesting stuff. Better get back to it.
