It\'s a wind up

I'm always experiencing something just like Deja vu except that in Deja vu you think something has happened before but what I experience has happened before. Here's an example; Consider the box on the table. It's experiencing a force downwards due to gravity, I forgot to mention the table is on the Earth even though it looks like it's floating in space. So I ask my students, "what does Newton's second law tell us a bout this situation".  Every year in every class I just know that someone will say, "the table must be pushing the box up". But that is what Newtons 1st law would tell us provided the box is at rest or moving with constant velocity not Newtons 3rd law. Today I had another one of those moments. "When a gas is compressed why does its temperature increase?" Recurring answer: "Because the pressure increases". I think there is a conspiracy. My second year students are telling the first years all the wrong answers just to wind me up.
