Passing comment

I usualy mark student work with a tablet PC but it's getting old and I'm looking for alternatives. I need to use Word since I'm using G4IA to record my marks and want to continue using the "paste to Word" facility so that rules out android tablets and windows tablets are too expensive. I've tried using Word comments but  don't like the way the arrows don't really point to the thing I'm commenting about, especially if it's part of a diagram. I have tried adding comments in PDF and think it's much better,  like the way the comment boxes are on the page rather than in the margin, I also like the use of stamps. I've tried playing with Word to see if I can make a syste like the PDF one, the closest I can get is to use shapes and text boxes. The result looks good but it takes a bit too long. I've tried making a macro to place the boxes but so far can't get it to work. If anyone manages to do this in Word 2010 then I'd appreciate a copy of the macro.
