She sells sea shells

This weekend we did our group 4 project. This took the form of a field trip to Svanøy an island about 1 hour by boat from the college. Svanøy is best known for its deer research centre but our focus was towards the sea. The general theme was to investigate the way physical conditions relate to the type of organism found at different places on the seashore. There were various physical things to measure so my physics students were kept busy most of the time. The two in the photo here are trying to burn a hole in their data with a magnifying glass, well at least they weren't burning holes in barnacles.

I was with the first group to arrive on the island and had time to walk to the other side where  bought a bottle of water and some local smoked salmon from a shop. On the way back I noticed that after I had drunk about half of the water, the bottle started to resonate with my steps. In the video it's not quite in tune but almost. I thought I might try something similar for a lab about resonance. This got me thinking, a resonance curve is a nice thing to plot but not linear so difficult to use for assessment. How about some labs that are used only for assessing conclusion and evaluation! More to follow.
