Reflections on education

We are about to move house and so am in the process of boxing up books and belongings. It is easy to get distracted!

I have just spent a happy few hours reading through my reflective journals, which also includes guotes from works that I have found interesting.

What sort of school?

I want to work in an educational community which:

  • is inclusive, not exclusive
  • acts on the belief that all can succeed, not some or many, and does not depend on failure
  • promotes education as a lifelong activity, not one limited to the phase (primary | secondary | tertiary) to which the school belongs
  • practices ipsative (against oneself) assessment practices, not ones which are normative
  • regards intelligence or talent as multi-faceted
