Coping with COVID-19

Friday 13 March 2020

Norway is in the process of containing the corona virus which means public events have been canceled and schools closed, UWCRCN is a residential school with students from something like 90 different countries so we can't simply close the doors, however students have been given the choice to go home if they and their parents think it is for the best. I have no idea how many of my students will be in class on Monday but I will probably have to teach some of them remotely. Unfortunately I had just started the IA with my first years so this might have to be put on ice but for the rest of the course it's business as usual. Although I don't normally teach remotely but all of my classes are delivered via this website's activities. Student's work through them independently asking me questions when in need of clarification, they normally do this in person now it will be via email or chat. They might have to skip some of the practical work however a lot of it can be done with things found at home.

I of course will need to track my students progress but I can do this by setting the activities as assignments in Student access where I can also set multiple choice quizzes via the question bank. My second years are working on the options, most have chosen astrophysics but there are activities for all options, here is a list of links to the pages Activity teaching order (Options) . When it comes to revision I direct them towards studyIB.

If I didn't have this website I'd be a bit lost, hopefully it will help others find their way through these difficult times too.
