New Year news
Monday 6 January 2025
Where does the time go? I can't quite believe that our last Blog post signaled the start of the school year - and that we are now embarking on 2025.
At least the time has flown because we've been having fun. Here's a round-up of all the latest site news:
- With the November 2024 exams complete, we have been able to restore a slightly more 'clean' feel to this site, removing duplicate sections. Teachers and students can now navigate with more ease to content that has been written or edited to match the May 2025+ Subject Guide. We hope you're finding it intuitive as we continue to make these updates a priority; ask us a question if there is anything we can clarify further.
- With the May 2025 examinations approaching, we are ready to launch a new StudyIB revision site later this month. This is organised by theme (e.g. A, B...) and topic (e.g. A.1, A.2...).
- We are delighted to welcome Tim Kirk to the InThinking Physics team. Given Tim's experience, it was straightforward for us to agree on his first task: writing an original set of papers for subscribing schools. These will be with you in March - just in time for a final set of mock exams.
A graduate of Queens’ College, Cambridge, Tim has worked non-stop in Italy, France and UK IB Schools since the 1980s at Sevenoaks School. Over the years, he has contributed to pupil assessment as Deputy Chief Examiner for Physics and teacher training as a seasoned workshop leader in Europe and the Americas. He has been involved with curriculum development as a member of two curriculum review committees. He did, however, have nothing to do with the current syllabus or the previous one so you can say what you like about them to him! Tim also works as an IB appointed consultant to candidate schools and in the past he has participated in school accreditation visits.
You may well be familiar with his IB Study Guide. He was commissioned by Oxford University Press to write the first edition of the this and the Physics Course Companion. The IB Study Guide for Physics is now in its 4th edition for the current syllabus (published October 2023). In addition to facilitating IB approved workshops, Tim has been running Think-Ins for some time and there are several planned for the coming months. He's very keen to get to know as many readers as possible; consider booking a place!

Tim is also running a Cat 2 Face to Face workshop with InThinking in Paris on the 21 - 23 Feb 2025. There are some, but not many, places still available. And there is also a virtual Cat 3 workshop: A focus on Internal Assessment on 21 – 23 Mar 2025. For more information on all of the above, see the main InThinking website.
On a more personal note, Chris continues to tour Europe as the star of documentary The Parkinsons Project and is back to regular baking.
I (Emma) now have two years of Norwegian life and two IB workshops under my belt. I'm delighted to share that my partner and I are expecting a baby physicist to join our family in April.
With Tim on hand, we look forward to sharing much, much more in the months to come.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year,
Chris, Tim and Emma
