CAS and TOK

The strongest links between TOK and CAS come from turning a knowledge question raised in class into something students do about it, then bringing the experience back to TOK as reflection. Under the current CAS guide, students must show sustained engagement in creativity, activity and service, complete at least one CAS project, and evidence all seven learning outcomes. Below you will find some ideas of experiences coming straight from the TOK curriculum.

Creativity Ideas

  1. Knowledge and language: Bilingual picture books for a kindergarten or library (C+S);
  2. Knowledge and politics: Neutral first-time voter guide, or a structured debate series on contested issues;
  3. AOK Arts: “Is it art?” exhibition or performance;
  4. AOKs: host an exhibition about famous experts in the field;
  5. Knowledge and indigenous societies: Map of traditions or indigenous beliefs;
  6. Create infographics, podcasts or posters about topics discussed in TOK;
  7. Create a “Who would you trust?” game for primary school students;
  8. Create a collaborative photographic exhibition showing how different people interpret the same thing;
  9. Build an interactive exhibition presenting identical information in different formats, followed by a transparent explanation;
  10. Produce a multilingual magazine exploring words and experiences that resist straightforward translation.

Activity Ideas

  1. Undertake a sustained physical skill challenge, such as juggling, swimming or climbing, prompted by investigating procedural knowledge;
  2. Choreograph and rehearse a performance about uncertainty, disagreement or trust, using movement as its principal means of expression;
  3. Learn a physical skill as a beginner, then lead a session about your experience where you interview other people who has done something for the first time.

Service Ideas

  1. Knowledge and technology: AI and misinformation workshops for younger pupils or seniors, e.g. spotting deepfakes and checking sources;
  2. Knowledge and technology: School “verification desk”, where students fact-check viral claims for the school community;
  3. Knowledge and language: Language support for migrant families, such as homework help or simple translated guides;
  4. AOK History: Oral history interviews with elders (S+C);
  5. AOK Mathematics: Maths escape room for primary pupils;
  6. Human Library event, where people with different life experiences are “borrowed” for conversations;
  7. Establish a community skill-sharing programme led by craft masters who are often overlooked;
  8. Run a TOK club for younger students;
  9. AOK Sciences: Run a workshop for seniors on evaluating scientific claims encountered in advertising and everyday news;
  10. Prepare a brochure introducing fact-checking methods for kids.
