The Representation of Masculinity
Thursday 22 August 2024
A while ago, a teacher on the site asked if we could create some resources about the representation of masculinity. It was an interesting request and an important one. It took some time, and some careful planning, but after that initial seed was planted, we've created (what we hope is) a curated set of thoughtful lessons for you to tackle this concept.
You can find the new page here.
The resources focus on six different text types and the ways in which masculinity is represented in those texts - with two optional texts included if you want to add them to your teaching as well. There are analytical questions about each text, compare and contrast questions (in terms of content and choices), a debate, a Socratic Seminar, as well as possible assessment tasks to complete at the end.
The young men (and women) you teach are bombarded with messages about what it means to be a man. Here’s your opportunity to have that discussion in your Language and Literature classroom.
Best,
Tim and David
