Football vs physics

The caption "football defies physics" caught my eye. Nothing can defy physics, if it does then the physics is wrong and it has to be re-written. Physics is just describing the real world and you can't defy that. What they should say is football defies intuition. Intuitively the ball should go straight but it doesn't due to the Magnus effect (or the wind). I tracked the path of one of the balls using LoggerPro and it looks pretty impressive. Slightly distorted due to the movement of the camera and even more distorted by the perspective. Pretty impressive though.
