This month sees Holocaust Remembrance Day.

We also highlight anniversaries coming up in 2020, and give an update of the latest additions to our site.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

27 January is Holocaust Remembrance Day and so an opportunity to discuss the signficance of this event in schools. There are many resources online to help teachers to this - for both younger and older students - as well as advice on how best to teach it and how to make it relevant to students' lives today.

Holocaust Memorial Day - Teaching Resources (BBC Teach)

27 January marks the liberation day of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. In this collection of teaching resources you will find stories of persecution, escape and survival in Nazi occupied Europe.

Anniversaries for 2020

'Anniversaries mark the passage of time, recall our triumphs, and honor our losses'
There are some key anniversaries coming up in 2020, including the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War. They are summarised in this article from Council of Foreign Relations (from which the quote above is taken).

This month we have the anniversary of the founding of the League of Nations. The website, 'Issues and Controvosies in American History' is an excellent site for those of you studying US history. This page links to the controvosy of the US joining the League of Nations.

History in the News

Linked to the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War Two, President Putin is making what Anne Applebaum calls, 'a series of strange and otherwise inexplicable statements' regarding Poland's role in the Second World War.
