Porosity is the amount of air space in a soil sample. These air spaces are what facilitate the movement of water, oxygen and nitrogen through the soil. The pore spaces also form an important part of the formation of aquifers. This is why I have decided to use this mini-lab as part of my unit on aquatic systems to help students understand what contributes to flash flooding. Soil Porosity Lab Sheet Download
