Responses to Terrorism

Thursday 25 July 2024

How do we respond to acts of terror?  How do we use language and images to process our grief, anger, sadness, and other emotions?

This week’s update - found here for subscribers - attempts to answer (in part) those questions.  The materials and resources depict how a poet responds, how a musician responds, and how a politician responds to an act of terror.

This isn’t an easy lesson.  InThinking also wants to tread lightly here.  It is a difficult topic to discuss and it will not be an easy set of resources to use.  But it’s important.  In our Language and Literature course, we have the opportunity to help students understand the world around them and this is - unfortunately - one aspect of our world.  However, you know your context best.  If this isn’t suitable for you and your students where you teach, don’t use it.  Modify it if you need to do so.  And, if your particular situation permits it, use the resources as you see fit.

Best,

Tim and David
