"Hey Dad, Can I Have Some Money?"

Thursday 13 June 2024

There are times in your course that you may want to study just a single text type, but not as a body of work.  This is possible!  It could be especially advantageous if you want to really focus very explicitly on language and the persuasiveness of words.  In this case, the focus is on appeal letters.

The lesson, found here for subscribers, centers around how we appeal for money in all sorts of situations.  The lesson connects to students and their home lives (asking their parents or guardians for money); the lesson connects to students and their school lives (exploring how to ask for donations for a school club or organization); and the lesson connects to students and the wider world (focusing on wider charity and giving).

As always, use what works for you, in your context, and modify anything that needs modifying to fit your needs.

Best,

Tim and David
